Application

Thank you very much for your interest in the Chemistry Master Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

For all applicants with a foreign (Bachelor) degree the process of applying is described here:

In short, you need the following documents:

  • Preliminary review documentation (VPD) from uni-assist (https://www.uni-assist.de/en/) – ATTENTION: processing time approx. 3–4 weeks!
  • Collection of Documents (see below).

Finally, you can apply electronically via Klips 2.0  for the master program in Chemistry.

Application Deadlines

In order to process your application as early as possible, we strongly recommend that you submit all your documents already by January 5th / July 5th respectively.

  • for the summer term (Sommersemester): 15 January
  • for the winter term (Wintersemester): 15 July

Requested Documents for Application

The admission committee requires the certified copies of the following documents in order to be able to verify your application:

  • Preliminary review documentation (VPD) from uni-assist (https://www.uni-assist.de/en/)
  • Candidates from India, China and Vietnam need an APS: International Prospective Master Students
  • Letter of Motivation
  • School leaving certificate (or an equivalent degree of qualification for access to German universities)
  • Bachelor-degree (or an equivalent university degree). A German Bachelor degree can be handed in later.
  • Transcript of Records
  • Proof of English language skills*
  • Candidates have to prove at least 12 credit points in the following areas:
    a) Inorganic Chemistry
    b) Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry
    c) Physical and Theoretical Chemistry and in total at least 60 credit points.
  • internal application form (please fill in online, print and sign)

If you want to choose biochemistry modules as part of the Chemistry Master Program you need to prove a basic knowledge in biochemistry (theoretical as well as practical) of min. 9 CP.

*Applicants must prove sufficient English language skills. Sufficient language skills are considered to be level C1 of the Common Framework of Reference for Languages of the European Union or comparable knowledge. An orientation interview in English will be held with applicants who (only) prove level B2. For candidates, who have gained their general university entrance qualification within the area of application of the German Basic Law, this requirement  is regarded as fulfilled. No language certificates are needed for candidates, who have successfully completed a Bachelor study program or equivalent in English. The examination board decides on granting exemptions.

Decisions concerning admission for the Master program are send out at latest February, 28th and August 31th, respectively.
